Bulloch County Sheriff: Swimmer Drowns In Ogeechee River

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the drowning of a Springfield man on August 11th.  Deputies responded to the Steel Bridge on S.R. 119 for a report of a swimmer missing in the Ogeechee River.  Witnesses told deputies 33-year-old William Young jumped from the bridge into the river.  Bulloch County Fire and EMS, along with Georgia Department of Natural Resource, searched for Young.  DNR rangers found his dead body in the river.  It was taken to GBI's regional crime lab.  An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The sheriff's office says Young's death does not appear to involve foul play.  It continues investigating today.  If you have any information call Walter Deal at 912-764-1788 or leave an anonymous tip by emailing tips@bullochsheriff.com.

Sheriff Lynn Anderson also asks you to use caution when visiting the Ogeechee River and to refrain from jumping from the bridges.  She says the increase of rain and storms has made the river more dangerous.
