Protestors a no-show at Soldier Memorial

Sgt. Stephan Smith was memorialized today in the town of Ludowici. A crowd of motorcyclists lead the procession which started at carter funeral home in Hinesville.

Word was that the nationally known group of protestors called the Westboro Baptist Church had been planning to crash the event. But today they were a no-show. Those who turned out say that's as it should be. Eva Newbold spoke for many of those attending:

" Well originally it was to protect Sgt. Smith's family from the Westboro Baptist Church and the ignorance of why you are all here. But it turned into showing our support for the military and our families, so we all just came out here to show our support."

There's no word on just why the protestors didn't come to the memorial. Highway 84 was shut down for a time to allow for the procession.
