Fort Stewart Commander Nominated To Assist Defense Secretary

The Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. Robert B. Abrams for appointment to the rank of Lieutenant General and for assignment as senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense.  Maj. Gen. Abrams is currently serving as commanding general, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Maj. Gen. Abrams assumed command of the 3rd Infantry Division 15 April 2011. Maj. Gen. Abrams recently returned to Fort Stewart from a year-long deployment as the Afghanistan International Security Assistance Force, Regional Command-South Commander.
