6 Rescued At Tybee Island Beach

Posted: Updated:
TYBEE ISLAND, GA -

Around 1:30 p.m. Tybee Island Ocean Rescue and the Fire Department responded to eight people caught up in the channel at the south end of the beach near 19th street. The tide pulled them out to sea. Captain Mike Taylor with Ocean Rescue said two were able to swim to safety. Everyone who had to be rescued is doing fine.

Captain Taylor said another spot you want to look out for is the sandbar at the south end of the island which looks like an easy walk over to Little Tybee. The tide can make it a very dangerous place and Captain Taylor recommends not venturing out onto the sandbar.
