EMANUEL COUNTY, GA -

A 6 year old autistic girl is dead after an apparent drowning in an Emanuel County pond.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Dena Burn's parents called and reported her missing around 6:35 a.m. Thursday morning stating that she had wandered away from home.

Emanuel County deputies, Swainsboro Police officers, and Georgia State Patrol searched the surrounding residence and found the missing girl about 30 minutes later unconscious in a neighboring pond. After multiple attempts to revive the six year old, the Emanuel County Coroner pronounced her dead.

Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens says foul play is not expected, but the investigation is ongoing.  An autopsy is scheduled.

Anyone with information on this death investigation is asked to call the Emanuel County Sheriff's Office at 478-237-7526 or the Sheriff's Investigators Division at 478-237-6360.
