SAVANNAH, GA -

A Savannah man is in jail and a search is on for his accomplice after a car was stolen from a dealership, involved in a police chase and crashed on Wednesday morning.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police first spotted the two men speeding in a 2007 Mercury Mariner near several southside Savannah auto dealerships about 2:20 a.m. Detectives say the SUV was stolen from the Savannah Toyota Value Used Car Center.

Officers chased the SUV through the Midtown and Baldwin Park neighborhoods where they say 18 year old Charles Leonard Mobley crashed it into a fence and garage then overturned in the 1400 block of East 40th Street Lane.

Officers saw Mobley and another male got out of the care and ran away. Within the hour, officers arrested Mobley at his home, but they never caught up with other man.

Mobley is charged with theft by taking (auto), fleeing to elude, reckless driving and two counts of criminal damage to property.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
