Garden City Police Chief Becomes Georgia's Top Cop

Posted: Updated:

Garden City Police Chief David Lyons is the new top cop in Georgia. Lyons was sworn in as President of the Georgia Association Chiefs of Police during a ceremony Tuesday night at Westin Savannah Harbor on Hutchinson Island.

Chief Lyons says he campaigned across the state for the job. Many fellow police chiefs think highly of Lyons  and easily voted him in.

He says this is certainly a highlight of his career, "this is an opportunity to affect law enforcement across Georgia... we do...this association does an awful lot for law enforcement interms of professionalism, training, legislative issues, we run the gamut."

The Operation New Hope Program from the Chatham County Sheriff's Department also won a special award for innovation in law enforcement.
