Victim and shooter identified in fatal Effingham County shooting

23-year-old George Antwon Perry has been charged with the murder of his cousin 19-year-old Christopher Williams.

Perry is being held at the Effingham County Jail.


A young man is dead after shots rang out in Effingham County Tuesday night. It happened just before 8pm in the 200 block of Nixon Chapel Road.

According to Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, the victim was outside on his front porch when the suspect pulled up in a vehicle, got out and shot the young man after a short tussle. The suspect then sped away.

Those who witnessed  the incident recognized the shooter and identified him to the detectives.

Sheriff McDuffie tells News 3, he knows the suspects mother. He called her personally to tell her what happened and urged her to convince her son to turn himself in.

The suspect listened to his mom and is now in custody at the Effingham County Jail.  The sheriff says that  this is an open and close case.
