Garner police: Woman locked children in bedroom

Posted: Updated:
GARNER, N.C. -

Garner police arrested and charged a woman with child abuse Monday after a social worker observed her two children locked in a bedroom.

Kristina Jean Crawford, 27, of 105 Cedar Lane, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse. The Garner police had been investigating Crawford since May 17.

A social worker went to visit the children of Crawford, ages 3 and 4 on Monday. The social worker could not get an adult to answer the door but she made contact with the two children through a window, authorities said.

Garner police said the social worker saw the children were stuck inside the bedroom as the door was tied shut with rope. At this point, the social worker called police for assistance.

Police said Crawford, who was asleep, eventually opened the door for arriving authorities. The children were not physically injured during this incident.
