CHATHAM COUNTY, GA -

UPDATE:

The Chatham County Court Case Manager arrested last week on drug charges has been granted bond in the case.  A bond hearing was held today in Judge's Chambers which resulted in Velvelyn Scarborough being granted a 10-thousand dollar bond with special conditions.  Those conditions include a ban on contact with any courthouse staff or any of the alleged co-conspirators in a cocaine bust that authorities say is related to her arrest.  In addition, Scarborough is not allowed to leave Chatham County.

UPDATE:

Velvelyn Scarborough appeared in Chatham County Court on Monday in front of Judge Gregory Sapp.  Details remain sketchy about exactly what led to her being charged with Attempt/Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance.  Defense Attorney Greg Crawford requested a reasonable bond be set.  Marcus Tucker, the Assistant District Attorney handling the case argued against.  The Judge has set a bond hearing for 11am Tuesday in Chambers.

UPDATE:

Velvelyn Scarborough, the Chatham County Superior Court Case Manager arrested Friday on drug charges, will be arraigned in a Chatham County Courtroom today.  Scarborough was taken into custody early Friday morning after a search warrant was served on her home and office.  Her computer was seized as part of the search.  Details of the allegations against Scarborough have not yet been released, but authorities say it's related to a major cocaine bust made by CNT last fall.

UPDATE:

A warrant clerk for the Superior Court of Chatham County has been placed on Investigatory Suspension without Pay tonight.  Velvelyn Scarborough has been charged with Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance, with other charges forthcoming.  Authorities served a warrant on Scarborough early this morning - searching her office and seizing a computer.  They say the charges stem from her alleged involvement with someone arrested as part of a huge drug bust by CNT last fall.

Scarborough is an employee of the Court's Case Management Division where she has worked for nearly twelve years - since August of 2001.  Superior Court Administrator Crystal Taylor Cooper tells News 3 that Scarborough was placed on suspension this morning after the office was notified of her arrest. Cooper says Scarborough has been a good employee and the Office had no indication of a problem prior to this morning's arrest.
