CHATHAM COUNTY, GA -

Brandon Mackey is now under Indictment.

Mackey is the suspect in the killing of local firefighter Wesley Franklin last year.

Now News 3 has found out that the Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap is taking this case on personally.

Brandon Mackey was indicted today on ten total charges, including Malice Murder and two counts of Felony Murder.

Investigators say Mackey was robbing a pair of girls outside Deb's Pub and Grub when he fired a shot that went through the wall, killing Franklin.

This high profile case has gotten the attention of folks around the entire area, including Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap.

Heap presented the case to the Grand Jury, and told News 3 Wednesday she will get back in courtroom, prosecuting this case herself.

"Every case is challenging. you deal with people who are not actors and they have emotions and trying to relay what they saw as best they can. so I think that's a challenge, its a challenge that needs to be taken on and a fight that needs to be fought."

"There is no murder that is right and no murder that someone isn't brokenhearted over."

"We are going to fight hard. We are going to make sure the evidence is there. We are going to go over this case with a fine tooth comb, and justice will be done in the end."

Heap says she believes in all her prosecutors and knows they fight hard for what they believe in every day, but she wants her courtroom skills to stay fresh, and show the public she is a hands-on District Attorney, working with her staff, not just overseeing them.

Brandon Mackey will next be arraigned in a Chatham County courtroom, and then a trial date is expected to be set, possibly as early as this fall.
