Orange Co. residents still cleaning up from historic rains

Posted: Updated:
CARRBORO, N.C. -

We've all seen the damage Mother Nature can cause.  People in Orange County are still cleaning up from heavy flooding two weeks ago.

The American Red Cross says that nearly 80 percent of people aren't prepared for this type of weather event.

The Rocky Brook mobile home park took the brunt of last month's flash flooding, when it was inundated with five inches of rain in minutes.

Water from a nearby creek also rose, covering the nearby streets in five feet of water.

Peggy Corbett has lived there for 30 years, and never saw such terrible flooding. Like most of those who live there, she had no plan.

The Red Cross says being prepared to leave and get to high ground is most important in a flash flood situation.

Another resident of the park, Tracy Kennedy, wasn't home when the flood occurred.  However, her home is now condemned, and she says she plans to find a new home.

But now that they've been through the flood, they say that know what to do in the future, and have become more educated thanks to the Red Cross as well.
