First on 3 details: The GBI is now in charge of investigating an officer involved shooting that left a Pooler man dead.

It happened on Chinese Fir Court just after 8 Monday night. A police report, obtained Wednesday by News 3, included very little detail. The report describes the altercation in two sentences.

Teams from Pooler Police as well as Garden City and Bloomingdale were called to the scene Tuesday for what the GBI calls "threatening issues" by Lance Clay, who was inside the home.

Clay fired several shots at officers before coming out of the home with a gun in his hand.

GBI Agent Catherine Sapp says Clay "forced officers to deal with the threat" and that's when an officer shot and killed him.

News 3 has learned that Lance Clay's son, Nick Clay, is a Pooler Police officer.

Neighbors tell News 3 police came to her door last night and asked her to evacuate. When she walked out the door, she heard Clay shouting and heard police asking him to get down on the ground. She said he did have a gun in his hand.

Pooler Police Chief Mark Revenew tells News 3 he has handed his department's investigation over to the GBI.

The GBI is looking into this case, and will hand over their findings to the Chatham County District Attorney's office to see if any charges will be filed.
