Here's a quick look at your Top 3 on 3 stories you'll need to know before heading out this morning.

Federal spending cuts stemming from the March sequester mean major furloughs at the Pentagon. Starting today, 650,000 defense department employees will be on furlough. Civilian Pentagon workers will be forced to take one unpaid day off each week through September 21st. That will equal a 20% reduction of their income. Observers warn the furloughs could slow the delivery of much-needed supplies to troops.

Also, new speculation this morning surrounding the pilot in control of the South Korean Boeing 777 that crashed in San Francisco on Saturday. Reports show that he had only had 43 hours of experience flying that type of plane and was landing one for the first time at that airport. An Asiana Airlines spokeswoman says the pilot, who had nearly 10,000 hours flying other planes, was trying to get used to the 777 at the time of the crash landing. Two of the 307 passengers on board were killed.

Plus, there's a new leader at the helm of the National Parent Teacher Association and it's a local. Otha Thornton lives in Richmond Hill and says he is ready to make a difference. The President of the National PTA says numerous studies have shown children do better in school when their parents take an interest. Thornton is making history as the first African-American male chosen to lead the association.
