Greensboro imposes curfew after massive teen fight

Posted: Updated:
GREENSBORO, N.C. -

Over the next 60 days, it will be a misdemeanor for anyone 17 and under to be unsupervised in downtown Greensboro after 11 p.m.

The Greensboro City Council reinstated the curfew in an emergency meeting Wednesday in response to recent violence and arrests.  The curfew is in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The council met after a massive fight involving an estimated 400 people downtown Saturday night. Greensboro police arrested 11 people ranging in age from 16 to 20. Officers had to call in reinforcements and use pepper spray and a stun gun to try to get the crowd under control.

The city originally imposed a curfew in 2011 banning children under 18 from being out unsupervised from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
