Around 90 Thousand Gallons of Sewage Spilled Into Waters Off Tybee

TYBEE ISLAND, GA -

The Environmental Protection Division confirms with News 3 that around 90,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the waters off Tybee.

Officials say the spill is from a sewage line that broke sometime Monday off of 10th Street and Jones Avenue and has since been fixed.

The Department of Natural Resources tested the waters in that area on Tuesday and results show normal levels of bacteria.

David Lyle with the Coastal District of the EPD says the affected area is tidal so natural flushing has occurred.

The EPD says DNR will continue to test the water throughout the week and warning signs have been posted on Jones Avenue.

News 3 will continue to follow this story and bring you the very latest.
