Andrew Ruiz joined the 9 On Your Side team in June 2013 as a General Assignment Reporter and Digital Journalist.

Andrew comes to Eastern Carolina from WMBB, home of the World's Most Beautiful Beaches. While serving as a reporter at News 13, the ABC affiliate in Panama City, FL, Andrew led several groundbreaking projects resulting in the explanation of the 11 state constitutional amendments, the pioneering of his own franchise, "Made in the Panhandle" and several investigative reports like "No ID Required."

In the newsroom, he's known as an assertive journalist; someone who doesn't take no for an answer and one willing to ask hard-hitting questions. One of his greatest strengths in reporting is his unwavering commitment and captivating ability to connect with people.

Andrew's passion for journalism stems from the first day he appeared on the morning announcements at his elementary school in Hialeah, FL. Since then, storytelling has driven his life, always attracted to interesting people with amazing stories.

Andrew graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's in Telecommunications. Aside from his fascination with reporting, Andrew was very involved on campus while studying in Gainesville. He served as the Event Chair for the University of Florida Relay For Life, Vice-President of his fraternity (Sigma Pi), an Ambassador for the College of Journalism, a leader in several Hispanic groups and a member of Florida Blue Key. He is proud to be a University of Florida Hall of Fame inductee, a Miami Herald Silver Knight and an Eagle Scout.

Andrew was born and raised in South Florida by his Cuban parents. He values his relationship with his tight knit family and friends. Andrew and his wife Christine are ecstatic to be living in Eastern North Carolina. When Andrew is not working he's enjoying the outdoors, rooting for the Gators, catching up with friends and family, traveling, or giving back to the community.

Andrew believes the best stories are told through people and if you have an idea you'd like to share with him, feel free to email him. You can also follow him on Facebook and Twitter.
