"Beach Bum" Athletes Flock to Hilton Head

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -

It was a beautiful morning on the shores of South Carolina for athletes competing in the annual Hilton Head Island "Beach Bum Triathlon."

Swimming, biking and running along the soft sand for nearly 200 athletes has its perks according to runners who say this was a great way to get outdoors and get in shape.

"It's just a lot of fun, I love being out here on the beach and swimming in the water. You know it's great that you can look at the sky and just enjoy nature while you're out here. For me I mean I have three small kids, so I don't try to push myself too hard it's just about enjoying myself and seeing what my body can do," said Holly Rein.

Athletes from 15-to-70-years-old competed in the triathlon and organizers say it will be bigger and better next year.
