Chapel Hill towing rules halted by temporary stay order

Posted: Updated:

New towing rules that were expected to go into effect Monday in Chapel Hill have been put on hold after a towing company filed paper work, asking the North Carolina Supreme court to review the decision.

The new rules were set to go into effect Monday to cut down on predatory towing.

On Tuesday, the state supreme court issued a temporary stay order, which means the town of Chapel Hill cannot enforce the new towing rules.

Earlier this month, an appeals judge reinstate the towing ordinance after a towing company challenged it and a judged ruled it unconstitutional.
