RELEASE FROM THE AJGA:

HANK HANEY IJGA JUNIOR OPEN

June 17 - 20, 2013

Ozaki gains second round lead with 1-under-par 69 at Hank Haney IJGA Junior Open
Stephenson shoots 71 to maintain lead at Chechessee Creek Club

OKATIE, S.C. — Shota Ozaki of Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan shot a 1-under-par 69 for the second day in a row, gaining the second-round lead by a stroke at the Hank Haney IJGA Junior Open. In the Girls Division, Lauren Stephenson of Lexington, S.C., carded a 1-over-par 71, holding onto her first-round lead from round one at 3-under-par 137 for the tournament.

Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the Hank Haney IJGA Junior Open is a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-70 course at Chechessee Creek Club. The event features 57 boys and 19 girls, ages 12-18, from 17 states, Canada, Japan and Thailand. The Boys Division is playing the course at 6,502 yards while the Girls Division is playing the course at 5,779 yards.

Ozaki, who started off No. 10 on Wednesday, shot 1-over-par 36 on his first nine holes. He finished with 2-under-par 33 on his second nine, with birdies on Nos. 4 and 5 en route to his two-day total of 2-under-par 138.

"I hit almost every fairway, so I didn't get into any trouble today," said Ozaki, who birdied two of the three par 5s during the second round. "It was easy to hit greens"

Ozaki sits ahead of Davis Morrison of Charlotte, N.C., in second at 1-under-par 139 with rounds of 70-69 139. Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head, Island, S.C., is two strokes back with back-to-back rounds of 70. Ryan Dornes of Lancaster, Pa., shot a second-round 67 and is in fourth at 1-over-par 141. Tied for fifth is Philip Kelley III of Advance, N.C., and Logan Lanier of Saint Augustine, Fla., at 3-over-par 143.

In the Girls Division, Stephenson began the day with a two-stroke lead over the field. She shot a 1-over-par 137, solidifying her lead to three strokes.

"I hit the ball just as good as I did yesterday, I just didn't putt as well," Stephenson said. "I mean I can't be too upset because you don't make them every day and I made all of them yesterday, so it gives me confidence going into tomorrow knowing that I'm still hitting the ball good and that I can shoot low out here. "

Stephenson, who also started on No. 10, birdied No. 18 on her front nine and the long par-4 No. 6 on her second nine. She hopes to build off the momentum from her two-round lead.

"I'm not too nervous because I've been in this situation before," she said. "I've just got to go out there and have confidence in myself and just play one shot at a time, and not worry about everyone else."

Aliea Clark of Carlsbad, Calif., trails Stephenson by three strokes at even-par 140 after rounds of 69-71. Clementina Rodriguez from Venezuela, playing out of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Ji Eun Baik of South Korea, playing out of Newman, Ga., are tied for third at 5-over-par 145.

Final-round tee times will run from 7:30 a.m.-9:18 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at Chechessee Creek Club.
