Watermelon Festival Kicks-Off This Weekend

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. -

The 71st Annual Watermelon Festival kicks off this Saturday in Hampton County.

The eight-day festival starts with a Family Fun Day at Lake Warren State Park.

Admission is free.

A parade, fishing contest and bluegrass concert are also planned as well as carnivals, arts and crafts exhibits, and a 5K run.

The festival wraps up on Sunday, June 30 with a Mud Pit Run.

That happens behind the airport at 1 p.m.

You can watch the race from the stands.

The cost is $10 for people 13 years and older and $5 for those 12 and under.

According to the festival's website, the Hampton County Watermelon Festival has grown to become South Carolina's oldest continuing festival.
