SSU Holds Free Summer Math Camp for Teens

SAVANNAH, GA -

While many of their friends are enjoying their summer break, some area students are hard at work brushing up on their math skills.

About 30 rising 8th and 9th graders are taking advantage of a free camp at Savannah State University that focuses on algebra enrichment called "Pay it Forward".

The 4-day camp is a pilot program for students with an 85 GPA or higher.

Camp Coordinator, Dr. Sujin Kim who's also an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Savannah State says the program was created to educate middle school students in advance to eliminate their math anxiety towards upper level math in high school and to provide in-depth education to students who have potential in math.

Organizers say they hope to extend the next year's camp to include Pre-Calculus.
