PEMBROKE, GA -

Family, friends, and co-workers of Sgt. Robert Crapse have a new way to honor his memory.  A street in Pembroke now bears Crapse's name. The Bryan County Sheriff's Deputy was killed last year when a driver hit him going the wrong way on I-95. The new sign comes a day before the one-year anniversary of Crapse's death.

"I'll feel his spirit here, just like when we go down 95 and we pass mile marker 96 where we've got his cross and stuff, we feel him," said Becky Crapse.

Crapse's mother Becky said this past year has been full of heartache.

"I want to hear him say mom again. I go to bed at night and I think of him. I have two other children, but we are not complete without him," said Becky.

Crapse leaves behind three children, a wife, and his K-9 partner named Seppe, who survived the accident.

"You can tell he misses Bobby. That was Bobby's partner and best friend, K-9 wise," said Becky.

Those who worked side by side with Crapse at the Pembroke Police Department and the Bryan County Sheriff's Office said they could always turn to him.

"I still find myself in that cemetery and talk to him as if he's still sitting there listening to me, "said Pembroke Police Department Sgt. Matthew Lynn.

The tragic accident is hard to accept for Sgt. Mathew Lynn.

"Any line of duty death is one is too many but to have his in such a senseless act, something that was completely avoidable, is the most heartbreaking part of it," said Lynn.

Becky Crapse said with such overwhelming support she can tell her son made a difference in many people's lives.

"He was always there for somebody. He would give his shirt off his back for you, he loved kids, loved life in general," said Becky.

The woman charged in officer Crapse's death, Patricia Collins, is accused of driving the wrong way while intoxicated.  Collins faces numerous charges, including 1st degree vehicular homicide. She is currently awaiting trial.
