CARY, N.C. -

A historic home in Cary is moving across the street to make room for a townhome development.

Capital Area Preservation is moving the historic George Upchurch House from its original location at 1021 Waldo Rood Boulevard to its new location across the road at 1024 Waldo Rood Boulevard.

The move became necessary with Standard Pacific Homes purchased the land where the home was located to build a townhome development.

The George Upchurch House is the older of two houses built by brothers in the late 19th century.

To preserve the home, Standard Pacific donated the house and a tract across the road from the original site to Capital Area Preservation. CAP will stabilize the house on the new site and plans to offer it for sale with a preservation easement and rehabilitation agreement.
