AWOL Celebrates Music Program with Community Lake Bash

School is out for summer and one local youth arts organization is celebrating with a big party. Friday, June 14, All Walks of Life (AWOL), Inc. will host its annual Lake Bash for teens.

It's an opportunity for the non-profit to shine a light on its music program, "The P.R.O.J.E.C.T.S." (Positive Re-Education Of Juveniles Everywhere Concerning the Streets) which will release its seventh album of student-created songs.

The group, comprised of kids ages 13 - 19, will take the stage during a live concert.

The performance is a culmination of eight weeks of classroom-style lessons in music history, creative writing, music theory and computer-based music production. Students are then given access to the AWOL's recording studio, where they learn to use ProTools and other programs.

Copies of the album will be available for a donation to the organization. Additional live performances will be given by local acts.

Parents will also have a chance to register for a free upcoming community workshop entitled "Youth Voices", a Forum Theater experience designed to help solve pressing issues with area young people.
