Man charged with attempted murder in Fayetteville shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. and left one man in critical condition.

Police responded to a call at Highsmith Rainey Hospital in reference to a man who had sustained injuries in a shooting. Investigators determined the incident happened in the area of Morgan Street near the Bryan Street intersection.

Officers went to Morgan Street and arrested Jason McKnight, 31, of Fayetteville.

The victim, identified as Lamont Everett, 36, of Fayetteville, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and taken into surgery. He is currently in critical condition.

McKnight was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and discharging a weapon into occupied property. He was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and received a $250,000 secured bond.
