VA Sec. Shinseki talks military ed with UNC's Ross

Posted: Updated:
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The former four-star Army general who heads the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department is meeting with North Carolina's public universities president.

VA Secretary Eric Shinseki meets Tuesday with University of North Carolina President Tom Ross and other university leaders to talk about the GI Bill and helping veterans and their dependents graduate. Ross oversees the 16 taxpayer-supported universities in the UNC system.

The state public university Board of Governors meets this week and plans to consider policies that would make it easier for military members, veterans and their families to earn a college degree. The proposed policies would make it easier to transfer academic and work experience credits into UNC schools, and make it easier to withdraw from classes and return when called to duty.
