Storms Blamed for Injuries, Power Outages

Posted: Updated:

Strong storms blew through the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry Monday evening bringing lightning, heavy rain, and winds that knocked down several trees.

The National Weather Service reports that seven people were injured after one or more motor vehicles ran into a tree on Bloomingdale Road in Chatham County.

WSAV viewers sent in video and photos of a number of trees down in Effingham Co. and also flooding in Yemassee, SC.  Winds were estimated at close to 60 miles per hour in some places.

As of around 9pm Monday night, Georgia Power reported 9,000 customers without power as the result of these storms.  WSAV Chief Meteorologist Kris Allred says the chances of any more severe weather have now diminished for the night.
