Hurricane season is a little over a week old... and already one named storm has come and gone... Andrea... which became a tropical storm and impacted our local area with rain and gusty winds.
Recently... a team of meteorologists at The Weather Channel and weather.com came up with a list of overdue and most vulnerable cities... and Savannah was on this list.
They examined statistics from major coastal cities along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts... and used criteria from last year such as storm surge... evacuation time... population and the number of years since each city was hit hard by a hurricane.
Just a reminder not to be complacent... it has been 34 years since our last hurricane (1979 and David) and our last major hurricane was all the way back in 1898... but it could happen this year... so prepare your disaster kit and monitor the tropics and StormTeam 3 for the latest.
The National Hurricane Center calls for 13 to 20 named Atlantic storms... 7 to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and 3 to 6 that become major hurricanes.
The other cities to make the Top 10:
Tampa Bay area
