Law enforcement perform drug bust at Raleigh concert

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

A popular concert in Downtown Raleigh draws the attention of undercover cops and deputies, looking for illegal drugs and alcohol vendors.

All over the country fans of the concert, "Widespread Panic" came to the Red Hat Amphitheater for a good time, but before it even started some tailgaters got a glimpse of a different kind of show.

An undercover operation set out to find anyone selling alcohol or drugs illegally. WNCN was there when a K-9 unit, sniffed out cars for drugs. Within a matter of minutes, deputies found what they were looking for.

WNCN blurred out some of the video to protect the identity of the undercover officers, but it shows one vendor being questioned. Concert goers had mixed reaction to the bust.

"I think laws are set for a reason and if cops enforce the law they're doing their jobs and so more power to them" said Nick Foldes of Raleigh.

Monica Phelps disagreed. "I feel like what happens here stays here, everybody's having a great time. Nobody's hurting anybody, everybody paid their way in."

The busts didn't just happen right next to the Red Hat Amphitheater where vendors were set up. We're told from deputies that the undercover operation covered a good part of Downtown Raleigh.

The Widespread Panic Concert started at 7, without a hitch.
