RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Harris nuclear plant reactor is up and running after repairs to a reactor sensor.

The plant about 20 miles outside Raleigh was operating at about 7 percent power on Friday.

The reactor operated by Duke Energy Progress was taken offline May 15 for repairs. Duke and regulators said there was no evidence of radiation leakage from a quarter-inch spot of corrosion and cracking in the reactor vessel head, which contains heat and pressure produced by the nuclear core's energy.

The problem was spotted during preparation for an upcoming refueling outage. Federal regulators cleared Duke to power the reactor back up June 4.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting June 13 to discuss a special inspection launched to understand why the flaw wasn't discovered earlier.
