Armed Robber And Carjacker Found Guilty

The Chatham County District Attorney says Wednesday a jury found Juwann Anthony Campbell guilty of: Armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Attorneys say when these crimes occurred, this defendant was already under a felony First Offender sentence for three counts of entering auto and obstruction.

On the evening of November 1, 2011, Latrell Scott contacted her cousin Fletcher Scott and requested a ride. On the way they stopped to buy a pack of cigarettes.

In the parking lot of a liquor store on Wheaton Street in East Savannah, the two were approached by a group of young men. Latrell Scott recognized one of the young men; she knew him as ‘Lil J'.

The two began having a conversation as he leaned into the passenger window of the car where she was seated. The men complained of being cold and asked if Scott would mind if the two others sat in the car; which Fletcher Scott obliged.

Once in the car and after some casual conversation, all three men brandished firearms and put them on the Scotts's heads and bodies. Stating, "You know what this is, get out of the car." Ms. Scott exited the car and Fletcher Scott had difficulty removing his seatbelt at which time Campbell physically came around to the driver's side of the car and removed him at gunpoint.

The men sped away in the car and the Scotts contacted police. After speaking with Detectives, Latrell Scott took them to where she believed Lil J might live; as she had seen him there before. It was determined that the Campbell family lived there prior and that Juwann had been living at that residence.

Using this information, police prepared a photographic line-up. Latrell Scott identified Campbell as Lil J with 100% certainty. Fletcher Scott also picked Campbell as the man that robbed them at gunpoint. The warrant was issued for his arrest and he turned himself into the SCMPD on February 18, 2012.
