Proposed SCCPSS Budget

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

The Board of Public Education for the SCCPSS will adopt a tentative budget and millage rate at the regular board meeting at 3 p.m.  At the workshop earlier this morning, board members discussed the budget process and some of the changes. Originally the Superintendent proposed a 1.5 millage rate but it has been reduced to a 1 mill increase. The difference is a loss of around $5.1 million. The School Board President, Dr. Joe Buck, said the proposed reduction caused some programs to potentially be on the chopping block. The board is discussing eliminating the elementary and middle IB program, transportation to Ombudsman, and other reductions to save money.

Once the board adopts a millage rate later this evening it can't be increased anymore just reduced.

The final decision on the budget and millage rate will be on June 26th.

If you would like to attend the regular board meeting it will be held at the Jessie Collier DeLoach Board Room at the Whitney Administrative Complex, 2 Laura Avenue at 3 p.m.
