RALEIGH, N.C. -

Police say two men killed in an officer-involved crash early Wednesday morning were driving a stolen scooter.

Maurice Antonio Harden and Trindell Devon Thomas were traveling on Skycrest Drive around 3 a.m. when the vehicle veered left of the centerline and collided with a police cruiser driven by Officer J.H. Crews.

A wreck report says the police cruiser was traveling 77 mph, and Harden and Thomas were thrown approximately 180 feet. The scooter was dragged under Crews' cruiser approximately 267 feet.

Both Harden and Thomas were pronounced dead on the scene.

Crews sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. Those injuries were treated at the scene by EMS personnel.

Police say the scooter, which belongs to Nakia Antwion Pulley, was reported stolen on May 19.

Police say Crews was in pursuit of another vehicle when the accident occurred.

Authorities had roads blocked around the scene as they investigated the incident. Skycrest Drive is now back open to traffic.
