Hilton Head Island Park Incidents

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating two similar reports of an armed male suspect approaching females on the walking trail at Jarvis Creek Park on Hilton Head Island.

On May 21st at approximately 8 P.M. while exercising on the walking trail, a female victim reported she was approached by a Hispanic male on a bicycle.

She reported he then pointed a handgun at her and demanded her mobile telephone and anything else of value.  Prior to affecting the theft and for unknown reasons, the suspect became alarmed and fled the area on his bicycle.

On May 29th at approximately 5:30 P.M., a Hispanic male armed with a handgun approached another female exercising on the walking trail.

According to the victim, the suspect approached on a bicycle, pointed a handgun at her, then threatened to sexually assault and kill her. This time the suspect was scared off by the presence of a male jogger, who happened to be in the vicinity.

Of heightened concern is the apparent escalation of violent intent verbalized by the suspect within a period of 8 days.

While citizens are encouraged to enjoy the amenities and natural beauty offered at our local parks, they should remain vigilant until this suspect is apprehended.

Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact Corporal Wendy Conant at 843-255-3424 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
