WSAV-TV -

The Funeral service for Silas Edenfield will be today. Edenfield is the Toombs County boy that captured the hearts of thousands as he battled Cancer.  Family members say Silas succumbed to the disease Saturday afternoon

Arrangements are as follows:

Viewing on Thursday May 30 from 4-9 PM at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home in Vidalia
Funeral on Friday May 31 at 2 PM at the same place.
Graveside service at Old Reedy Creek Cemetery on HWY 86 in the Blue Ridge Community.

Saturday On their Caring Bridge site and Facebook site "Praying for Silas", the message from Silas' family reads simply:

Silas Nathanael Edenfield.
Born 9:27 AM June 4, 2008.
Went home to Heaven 1:54 PM May 25, 2013.

Silas battled a rare form of liver cancer, Hepatoblastoma, for the last 15 months.

After 7 rounds of chemo Silas had his tumor and 60% of his liver removed, but was never able to completely recover. He spurred on multiple support groups and fundraisers for childhood cancer. The Praying for Silas Facebook group has more than 49,000 likes.

Kim Osborne with Cure Childhood Cancer knew Silas and says while he may be gone, he will never be forgotten.

"We've raised thousands that have been donated in Silas' name and his memory," explains Osborne. "And it brings me great joy that his memory is not untold and not over. It continues to ripple and we're going to see the efforts of Silas for years to come."

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center even named a loggerhead turtle after the little boy after Silas visited the center last month. Edenfield wanted everyone to paint their fingernails gold in recognition of childhood cancer. We are told stores in Lyons completely sold out of gold nail polish.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Silas' memory to one of the following.
