Death of Woman Who Exited Moving Car Ruled Suicide

Posted: Updated:

The death of a woman who exited a moving car on Interstate 95 in Jasper County Sunday night has been ruled a suicide, according to the Jasper County Coroner.

Fifty-four-year-old Leah Louise Becker of Laguna Beach, California was riding with her brother in the southbound lane near mile marker 33 at Point South when authorities say she unbuckled her seat-belt and stepped out the car.  She was then struck and killed by a tractor trailer.

Traffic was re-routed about three hours Sunday.  South Carolina Highway Patrol, the Jasper County Coroner’s Office and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident.
