The accused killer of a local firefighter will undergo a psychological evaluation before heading back to court.

Brandon Mackey will take those tests before his next court appearance January 15.

That's when he is expected to plead guilty to murdering Wesley Franklin.

Franklin, an Isle of Hope volunteer firefighter, was shot and killed while sitting in a Sandfly bar back in 2012.

If convicted, Mackey could face life in prison without parole
