COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. -

Two people are facing charges after allegedly stealing a military fuel tanker from the National Guard Armory in Colleton County.

The Sheriff's Office says the theft took place between Friday, April 26th and Monday, April 29th.

At the time of the theft, the tanker was filled with 3,600 gallons of diesel fuel.

The tanker was returned in the early morning hours of April 30th minus the fuel.

After an extension investigation, officials say they were able to link two residences in the area to the fuel theft.

Search warrants were executed at the homes located at 1165 and 1152 Risher Mountain Road.

The Sheriff's Office says during that search, approximately 2,675 gallons of the stolen fuel was recovered.

Clarence Edward Risher, Jr, 42, of Walterboro, and Melinda Montjoy Risher, 43, also of Walterboro, was both arrested in conjunction with the theft.

The Sheriff's Office says more arrests are possible.
