UPDATE: Second Man ID'd in Armed Robbery

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA -

UPDATE 5/2/13 2:00 p.m.

Deputies have identified the second armed robbery suspect. 

Warrants have been issued for Antonial Maurice Kirkland, Jr.

The 18-year-old Guyton resident is wanted on Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Obstruction charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call ECSO at 754-3449.

 

 

UPDATE 3:45 p.m.

Investigators say the robbery happened Tuesday evening on Hester Rd. 

Deputies were called by the victim who told them he was following the suspects' vehicle. 

At approximately 6:30 p.m., deputies caught up with that vehicle and pursued it to Bluejay Road to Herbert Kessler Road. 

The driver crashed into a small pond where both suspects got out and fled on foot.

Deputies and a K9 quickly caught one of those men, identified as Leon Clemmons Jr. of Garden City.

Authorities then received a tip at around Noon today that the second suspect had been spotted in the area of Bluejay and Hodgeville but he was not found during the second search.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the suspect was picked up by a white female driving a silver car on Hodgeville Road. 

The suspect appeared to be in his early 20's and was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans and no shoes.

He goes by the street name "Zulu". 

Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff's Office at 912-754-3449.

 

 

UPDATE 3:15 p.m.

ECSO tells us the search has been called off and the second suspect has not been apprehended. 

Deputies were called this afternoon on a tip that a man in a red shirt was seen in the woodline of the Hodgeville/Blue Jay area.  Only a vague description of that person was available.

 

 

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies are searching a wooded area near Hodgeville and Blue Jay Roads for a man wanted for armed robbery.

The robbery happened last night off Blue Jay, authorities tell News 3.

One suspect was arrested.

A second got away.

The man who was arrested, 28 year old Leon Clemmons, is charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm or Knife while Committing or Attempting to Commit Crime.
