GREENVILLE, N.C. -

One suspect is in custody and another wanted by deputies for his role in the theft of chain link fences.

It happened in December.

A witness later reported seeing two men at a shed in Smith Mobile Home Park on Briley Road loading up chain link fence rolls in a grey Ford truck. When the suspects spotted the witness, they fled the scene.

Investigation into the incident revealed 43-year-old Gilbert Hedgepeth and 47-year-ld Rodney Parker of allegedly selling the fence rolls to a local scrap yard in Greenville.

Deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said Hedgepeth confessed to the crime on April 29. He was charged with Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and Felony Larceny. He was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center and placed under a $5,000 bond.

Parker is still wanted in the crime. If you know of his whereabouts, contact the Pitt County Sheriff's Office at 252-830-4141.
