Colbert-Busch Greets LC Veterans

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch met with several local veterans on Hilton Head Island to discuss her plan to protect their benefits.

"When you come back from duty, we should make sure that before you hit home, your GI bill is in place your veterans or your VA benefits are up and running, and that you take priority for jobs," said Colbert-Busch.

She says the men and women who served our country need to be protected.

"We want to make sure that you do get the benefits that you deserve, your GI bill, your VA, we make sure veterans have homes they can go to. This is just so important and fundamentally right, this what we should do."

And she says one of the ways in which she plans to make that happen is by opening a Beaufort County office where veterans can go for help.

"When we open that office it will have people that are experts in veterans affairs. We want the veterans of this area to know that if you have a problem, if you have a question, you need help, you call the Colbert-Busch Congressional office, and we will do our best to help you."

That's good news for General Claudia Kennedy--a retired three-star general in the army.

"We need the congress to come to us, because they represent us. How can they do a good job if they haven't heard our stories every day. I've heard her say it before, she wants to put together a constituents service office here that will serve Hilton Head, Bluffton, and Sun City, that's very important."

Important enough to help Colbert-Busch get the veterans votes next week? We will have to wait and see.....

The special election for the first congressional seat takes place next Tuesday, May 7th between Colbert-Busch and former governor Mark Sanford.
