Mother And Son Narrowly Escape House Fire

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

Southside Assistant Fire Chief Hugh Futrell says it's no cliche, he says a woman and her young son are truly lucky to be alive. He says their trailer home burned this morning. The boy was inside when the fire apparently started in the wall near the washer and dryer. His mother was outside and went back inside to help her son. The boy suffered smoke inhalation and the woman was burned on her arm but Futrell says both were treated by medical crews at the scene and are okay. Futrell says the fire happened in an area on Old Highway 204 and that there no hydrants in the area. He says they were able to draw water from a nearby pond and that crews were also in two tanker trucks. However he says the mobile home and everything in it is destroyed.
