LORIS, SC (WBTW) - A Loris woman was arrested over the weekend after police said she left three children home alone in unsanitary conditions.

According to an Horry County police report, Lisa Malawey, age 44, left her three children, ages 13, 10, and 9 home alone Friday and did not return until Sunday morning once police contacted her.

When police arrived at the home, the children said Malawey often leaves them at home alone on the weekend, saying "It was her time off," the report said.

Police said there was no substantial food in the refrigerator but did notice some peanut butter, jelly, and bread.

The kitchen was unsanitary, with dirty dishes overflowing from the sink onto the counter, along with roaches crawling throughout the home, the report said.

Malawey told police she had been shopping and had stayed at a friend's house. She also said that her 17-year-old child should have been home with the juvenile children, the report said.

The children were taken into emergency protective custody by Horry County DSS.

Malawey was charged with three counts of unlawful neglect of children.
