Hands on Savannah Honors Top Volunteers

They have given countless hours of their time and made a difference in the lives of many.  Wednesday, United Way Hands on Savannah held its 34th annual Recognition & Awards Luncheon to honor volunteers nominated from Chatham, Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty Counties.

A panel of judges reviewed categories in five categories:

 Melonie Kinert was named the winner of the Animal Advocacy category for her work with the Islands Feral Cat Project. 

Carol Greenberg was named the winner of the Arts & Culture/Historic places category for her work with the Jewish Educational Alliance.

Windsor Forest High FFA Farm to School won the Environment/Conservation category for Gratitude Gardens and the Forsyth Farmers market.

Lois Roberson won the Education and Youth Development category for her work with Performance Initiatives.

Brenda Hardin was the winner of the Health and Human Services category for her work with the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision.  Hardin was also honored as the Herschel V. Jenkins volunteer of the year winner.

    The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is searching for two missing, possibly endangered people out of Hilton Head Island. Kenneth Anderson, 87, and Phyllis Anderson, 85, were reportedly on their way to visit family in Lawrenceville, Ga. at about 10 a.m. on Friday.
