SAVANNAH, GA -

The Girl Scouts Of Historic Georgia are considering a slight price hike in the cost of your favorite box of cookies. Leaders say they have encountered new fees in the overall cost of scouting, and more support is needed to keep their programs strong.

During an upcoming meeting in May, parents say the local council will consider raising the cost per-box to $4.00. In many areas around the nation, this is the average price, if not higher, one parent tells WSAV.com.

In a statement Tuesday, Tara Nobles, Marketing Manager for the Historic Georgia District told WSAV.com: "Girl Scout councils and other nonprofits throughout the country are facing increased costs of doing business. Our board is exploring options that will help us meet these rising costs."

Nobels adds: "At this point, the board has requested feedback from our volunteers about the possibility of raising the price of Girl Scout Cookies. Cookie prices have remained steady throughout our entire council since 2008, though the cost of cookies has risen 14%. The board will gather the feedback they receive and make a decision based on that feedback and the needs of the council. Their goal is to provide sound stewardship that will support high quality Girl Scout programming in Historic Georgia for decades to come."

As mentioned, the decision to possibly raise the price is not final but simply a consideration at this point. WSAV.com and our staff of cookie consumers, will keep you updated.
