An active duty Army soldier was charged with the murder of a Savannah tire store owner Tuesday after turning himself in to Military Police.
Emanuel Perez, 31, of a Gannan Avenue address, has been charged in the shooting death of Armondo Montes, 30, an owner of Brothers Tire Repair at Hampstead Avenue and White Bluff Road.
Montes was shot multiple times outside the business about 12:30 p.m. in a confrontation about a personal dispute between the two men. The scene led to road closures and delays as investigators combed the area Tuesday afternoon.
Perez turned himself in to Military Police at Hunter Army Air Field near the shooting scene a few minutes later. He was charged by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and is being held in the Chatham County Detention Center.
