New Safety Checklist For Big Events

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a new pre-event and day-of-event checklist to help with security. The protective measures focus on how to prepare for improvised explosive devices.

A local event production company, Stage Front, received the recommendations and plans on going over them as they help with big events like the Rock ‘n' Roll marathon.

"Things that we automatically have done for years, be aware of your surroundings, having contingency plans in case of inclement weather, we've never really sat down and said okay what do we do in the event of a terrorist attack," said Paul Mazo with Stage Front Production Services.

Paul Mazo an Account-Project Manager at Stage Front Production Services said as they set up for the Rock ‘n' Roll marathon this year the team will definitely be on a heightened alert.

"We come back and there's something there that wasn't there before we're going to say something where previously it was oh some drunk was here and left a bag," said Mazo.

Mazo said after tragedy strikes common practices might also be met with more scrutiny.

"If we're at the stage at Forsyth Park for instance it's very common for people to leave their backpacks lying around while they are on the race or whether they are out having fun with friends well today if I see a backpack I'm calling somebody," said Mazo.

Implementing different security tactics can also come with a cost.

"There will be a day I foresee that if things happen, the next thing, or the next thing, or the next thing, there may be metal detectors just like the airport," said Mazo.

Mazo said he plans on talking with a local security specialist about setting up a seminar for all those in the entertainment business.
