Identity Of Man Shot By Metro Police Officer Released

Posted:
SAVANNAH, GA -

UPDATE:

An officer-involved shooting is under investigation by Metro Police.  It happened overnight near the intersection of West Victory drive and Barnard Street-- shutting part of that area down for hours while police gathered evidence.  We're told 23 year old Timothy Maurice Williams was shot by a Metro officer after patrols responded to the area on a report of multiple gunshots.  Police say they spotted three men running down west 44th Street and climbing a fence into the yard of a house.  Investigators say about the same time those three were spotted, a person who lives in that home was calling 9-1-1 and trying to flag down an officer to report that someone was breaking into her house.  The officer went into the yard and spotted the men - two allegedly tried to escape back over the fence - the third, Williams, allegedly charged the officer and was shot.

Williams was taken to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of what police say are non-life-threatening injuries. The two other men are reportedly still being questioned.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 234-2020 or a Confidential Tip line to investigators at 525-3124.
