Bostic and Sanford Debate

Posted: Updated:
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -

UPDATE:

It was a packed house at Aunt Chiladas Monday, as folks came out to hear what Mark Sanford and Curtis Bostic had to say.

Sanford began with national spending and taxes...

"I was actually rated number one in the entire United States Congress in votes to limit federal spending, and limit federal taxation by the national taxpayers union," said Sanford.

While Bostic discussed gun control.

"I am a staunch supporter of the second amendment. I believe that it was placed there for a specific purpose, and I don't believe the answer lies in changing the gun," said Bostic.

After each candidate spoke to the crowd, voters had a chance to ask some tough questions. Topics from national security and term limits to fiscal responsibility, and even their own financial records, were called out.

"I was very disappointed that Mr. Bostic, who has all this money and all these businesses, doesn't have an accountant that can account for his earnings. If he can't account for them here, how is he going to account for them in Washington?"

But overall voters say they were pleased with the discussion between the candidates.

"I thought it was very interesting. I had not heard Curtis Bostic before, I have heard the governor a number of times, so I was very interested in hearing the contrast between the two," said Gail O'Kayne.

"I think it was a great debate, I think it really highlights one of the main questions that we are trying to send someone to Washington for," said Amonitti.

And that question is who is right for the first Congressional District.

It was a packed house at Aunt Chiladas Restaurant Monday, as folks awaited a debate between Republican candidates Curtis Bostic and former Governor Mark Sanford.

Bostic and Sanford are vying to be the Republican Candidate for the 1st congressional district. The two will face each other in Tuesdays run-off election.
